Saltshakers

Saltshakers is a seasonal three month ministry designed to stimulate fellowship and help us get to know each other better. You may be a Host or an Attendee.

If you are a Host, you will open your home for a meal, once a month for three months. Four to six attendees will be assigned to join you. Assignments will be shuffled each month, so that each meal will have different participants.

Hosts will coordinate the date/time and provide the entree and drinks. Attendees will bring sides. The meal will be a time for getting to know each other. After dinner a fun game can be played – see below for suggestions.

The scripture theme for Saltshakers is Colossians 4:6, “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

Saltshakers Information

Why:

Saltshakers is a way to get to know each other by enjoying a meal in each others’ homes. A dinner fellowship is a great way to build friendships. We are buffeted daily by spiritual darkness. Spending time over a meal is refreshing for the spirit!

Hebrews 10:24-25 “Stir each other up in love and good deeds – put away your independent Christianity. Forget not the assembly of yourselves together!”

Who:

Everyone is encouraged to host or attend!

What:

Groups will usually comprise six to eight people, from three to four households. Hosts generally commit to one ‘season’ of 3 meals (one meal per month). Hosts are assigned a list of attendees from which they coordinate the meal in their home. The attendee lists get shuffled for the following meals.

The host provides the main course and beverages, and assigns other parts of the meal to the attendees. Everyone prepares part of the meal and enjoys an evening of food, a light game, and fellowship.

Preferably it’s a dinner, but it could be an afternoon picnic, a Sunday brunch after church, or even a dessert buffet.

Where:

Generally the meal will be at the host’s home. Hosts may, if everyone agrees, choose to meet at a restaurant.

When:

Saltshakers normally runs from January to April – exact meeting dates and times are coordinated by each host with those attending.

How:

  • Hosts may choose not to reveal who is attending, so it is a fun surprise!
  • Fanciness is NOT expected – fellowship should be the priority. After the meal, a fun game may be played.
  • Be intentional about drawing all attendees into conversation – don’t let one topic dominate the evening.
  • Be uplifting in your conversation and refrain from gossip.
  • If meeting at a restaurant, everyone pays for themselves.
  • Alcoholic beverages: …all things are good, but not all are profitable. Alcohol should be avoided at Saltshakers gatherings.
